At the beginning of February 1999, the geographical center of Flanders was determined by students of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the KU Leuven. The center is located exactly in the farthest corner of East Flanders, close to the border with Sint-Amands. The coordinates are: 51° 2′ 16? N, 4° 14′ 26? OL 51° 2′ 16? NB, 4° 14′ 26? OL
In 2003, a work by the Opdorp sculptor Roger Van Den Eede was placed (approximately) on this point. The farmer preferred not to have the artwork in the middle of his plot, so the statue was placed a few tens of meters away.
